The shipbuilding cycle is a critical indicator of a shipyard's operational efficiency and technical capability. Dayang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has made significant progress in this area by implementing process innovations, reducing the shipbuilding cycle from 150 days to just 62 days. This achievement represents a major breakthrough in their production speed, bringing them closer to the top performance levels seen in the domestic shipbuilding industry.
Since its establishment, Dayang has consistently secured orders for various types of vessels, including Panamanian bulk carriers, container ships, and platform supply vessels, with each contract involving more than 10 ships. To support large-scale production, the company has developed dedicated construction bases and manufacturing facilities for armored components. By moving intermediate products out of the main ship structure and adopting an open assembly model, the company has transformed its traditional closed-loop shipbuilding approach into a more efficient, flexible system.
This new method not only lowers individual ship costs but also simplifies management and significantly reduces construction time. For example, with the Panamanian bulk carrier, the implementation of these improvements led to fewer technical modifications and a much faster construction timeline. The latest bulk carrier delivered in July completed its build in just 62 days, showcasing the effectiveness of the new process.
Additionally, the updated process has contributed to better ship quality and enhanced customer satisfaction. Currently, the company has over 100 shipowners across the globe. The second phase of the large dry dock and two 900-ton door crane projects are now in the early planning stages. Once completed, the overall shipbuilding capacity of the company will reach 2 million tons, solidifying its position as one of the leading players in China's shipbuilding industry.
