The shipbuilding cycle is a key indicator of a shipyard's operational efficiency and technical capability. Dayang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has significantly improved its performance through process optimization, reducing the shipbuilding cycle from 150 days to just 62 days. This achievement marks a major breakthrough in the company’s production speed, bringing it closer to the fastest shipbuilding standards in China.
Since its establishment, Dayang has consistently secured large orders, including multiple Panamax bulk carriers, container ships, and platform supply vessels. To support mass production, the company set up specialized construction zones and manufacturing facilities for armored components. By shifting intermediate parts away from the main ship structure, they transformed the traditional closed-loop shipbuilding model into an open assembly system. This new approach not only lowers individual ship costs but also simplifies management and drastically shortens construction time.
For example, with the Panamax bulk carrier, the implementation of the new method led to fewer technical adjustments and a much faster build schedule. The latest vessel delivered in July was completed in just 62 days, showcasing the effectiveness of the updated process.
Additionally, the new process has contributed to higher-quality ships, enhancing customer satisfaction and the company’s reputation. Today, Dayang works with over 100 shipowners across the globe. The second phase of the project, including two 900-ton door cranes, is now in the planning stage. Once completed, the company’s total shipbuilding capacity will reach 2 million tons, solidifying its position as one of China’s leading shipbuilding enterprises.
