Historic Chicago fire scene with rescue, 11-11-72
Here's a message from Eric Haak:
I recently came across some rare and fascinating photos of Truck 60 in action during a rescue on November 11, 1972. These images were captured by Sylvester Szymczak, a local photographer who lived nearby and had a keen eye for documenting the city’s history. He also took some incredible shots of the Central Manufacturing District fire, likely because of his close proximity to the area. I acquired a collection of his prints, and when I saw these photos, I recognized the buildings in the background as being just two blocks from where I live today. A few years later, I found an old logbook from Truck 60, and inside, I discovered the entry for this very fire, as shown in one of the images. From my research, it seems that the person rescued survived. The ambulance in the photo is Ambulance 12.
