House fire in Buffalo Grove, 9-9-17

On Saturday morning, September 9, 2017, just before 6:30 a.m., Buffalo Grove police and fire units were dispatched to 96 University Drive after a passerby reported smoke coming from the residence. Police officers arrived first and began knocking on the doors and ringing the doorbell in an attempt to wake the homeowners. As the fire department arrived, Arlington Heights Engine 4 and Buffalo Grove Tower 25 quickly stretched a line to the front door and made entry. Smoke was visible from the second floor, and thick smoke filled the first floor as well. When the front door was breached, heavy smoke poured out, indicating a serious situation. The alarm was upgraded to Code 4, signaling a working fire, and two additional ambulances were sent to the scene after reports suggested that three people might be inside the home. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze and search for any possible occupants. Neighbors later informed the police that the cars in the driveway did not belong to the homeowners, and the family's car was missing. A thorough search confirmed that only two cats were inside the house at the time of the fire. Despite the firefighters' efforts to resuscitate the animals, they did not survive. The incident served as a reminder of the dangers of house fires and the importance of early detection. Fortunately, no human lives were lost, though the loss of the pets was a heartbreaking outcome.
