Chicago firefighters responded to a house fire on Saturday at 10728 South Prairie Avenue. They successfully rescued a 66-year-old woman, but initially did not locate a young boy in the attic. The Chicago Tribune reported:

Firefighters were called to the 1 1/2 story frame home around 10 a.m. and found smoke and flames primarily coming from the basement, according to Fire Department spokesman Kevin MacGregor. The fire was spreading quickly through the walls of the home, he said.
A boy was found dead in an attic crawlspace several hours after firefighters rescued a woman from a Roseland neighborhood house fire this morning, fire officials confirmed.

Omariontae Tucker died of carbon monoxide intoxication and inhalation of smoke and soot from the fire, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The fire that claimed a 7-year-old boy over the weekend also took the life of his grandmother, who died at a suburban hospital on Sunday afternoon, officials said. An autopsy was scheduled for this morning for Barbara Scott, who was rescued from the home in the 10700 block of South Prairie Avenue on Saturday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and fire officials.
