Chicago firefighter dies on duty
The Chicago Tribune is reporting this morning that a 61-year-old Chicago firefighter, who had served for 18 years, passed away overnight after suffering a cardiac arrest. The incident occurred just hours after he responded to a fire on the South Side of the city, according to officials.
The firefighter was part of the Cook County medical examiner’s office, and while his name has not been released yet, authorities have confirmed that it will be shared with family members soon. He was called to a kitchen fire around 10 p.m. on Sunday at the 1500 block of West 99th Street, as reported by Will Knight, a spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department.
After returning to his firehouse, the firefighter began experiencing difficulty breathing while cleaning equipment. He was rushed to Little Company of Mary Hospital, where he went into cardiac arrest and was later pronounced dead at 11:21 p.m. This tragic event has left the entire fire department in shock, as the firefighter was known for his dedication and service to the community.
The Sun-Times also covered the story, highlighting that the firefighter was stationed at Engine 121, located on the 1700 block of West 95th Street in Beverly. According to ABC7Chicago, he is survived by his wife and three adult daughters, adding to the heartbreak felt by those who knew him.
