Chicago firefighter dies on duty
The Chicago Tribune is reporting this morning that a 61-year-old Chicago firefighter, who had served for 18 years, passed away overnight after suffering a cardiac arrest just hours after responding to a fire on the South Side. Officials have confirmed the tragic incident, though the firefighter's name has not been released yet, pending notification of his family.
The firefighter was called to a kitchen fire around 10 p.m. on Sunday in the 1500 block of West 99th Street, according to Will Knight, a spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department. After returning to his station, he began experiencing difficulty breathing while cleaning equipment. He was rushed to Little Company of Mary Hospital, where he suffered a cardiac arrest and was later pronounced dead at 11:21 p.m.
ABC7 Chicago has also reported the news, stating that the firefighter died from a heart attack shortly after returning from the call. He was a veteran of the Chicago Fire Department and was stationed at Engine 121, located on the 1700 block of West 95th Street in Beverly. While his name remains confidential, officials confirmed that he is survived by his wife and three adult daughters.
