Working fire in Northbrook, 5-6-20

On May 6, 2020, Northbrook firefighters responded to a reported smoke incident at 4040 Timberlane Drive in an unincorporated area of Cook County. The location is near the far southwest corner of Northbrook’s jurisdiction, close to the borders of Glenview, Wheeling, and Prospect Heights. A Cook County Sheriff’s Department officer was the first to arrive and reported visible flames coming from the roof of the house. This address is on a stretch of road where the only hydrant is located at the entrance on Sanders Road, prompting a call for assistance from the Prospect Heights Fire Department’s Tanker 9. Northbrook Engine 10 was the first suppression unit on scene and laid a 5-inch hose line from the hydrant to the structure. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and an advanced attic fire, leading to the alarm being upgraded to a working fire. Additional units from Glenview and Wheeling were dispatched, along with all Northbrook fire companies and Prospect Heights Tanker 9. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze, using tank water until a reliable water supply could be established. Three lines were used to suppress the fire, and Northbrook Tower 12 ventilated the roof from their platform. Fortunately, no one was inside the home at the time of the incident. Photos from the scene show thick smoke billowing from the structure, firefighters in protective gear, and emergency personnel working to bring the fire under control. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
