Toyota And Subaru Combine for a Home-Run Concept?
[TOKYO] The Tokyo Motor Show is one of those rare occasions where Toyota truly enjoys a "home court advantage," and this year, they made the most of it. Alongside their regular lineup, Toyota introduced two new concept vehicles: the FT-86 and the FT-EV III, the latter representing the next step in electric vehicle innovation.
While the FT-EV III is designed as a compact, social, and urban-friendly car, the FT-86 aligns more closely with current automotive trends. It's larger, bolder, and more luxurious than many of Toyota's previous concept cars, with its striking red paint job adding an exciting flair to the brand's image. However, the FT-86 is more than just a pretty face.
This concept car holds particular significance due to its collaborative nature with Subaru. Although Toyota handled the design and final touches, Subaru was responsible for manufacturing the engine. Interestingly, Subaru will also produce their own version of the vehicle, which will have some minor differences compared to Toyota's FT-86.
Despite being a concept car, Toyota has teased that the FT-86 is nearing mass production. According to reports from autoblogs.com, we can expect another iteration of the FT-86 in late 2011, more refined and ready for market. The final product is expected to carry a price tag around $20,000. It’s worth noting that Toyota may market the FT-86 under a different name, though that remains undisclosed at this time.
The collaboration between Toyota and Subaru on this project reflects a unique partnership that benefits both brands. This model not only highlights Toyota's commitment to innovation but also underscores the strength of their alliance with Subaru. The FT-86 represents a blend of Japanese engineering excellence and forward-thinking design philosophy, promising to captivate drivers worldwide.
