New hot runner technology for multi-cavity molds
St. Wanti Injection Molding Co., Ltd., known for its large and medium-sized hot runner systems primarily used in the automotive sector, is now expanding its product range to include injection nozzles as small as 0.1 grams. This move allows the company to serve a broader market, including the automotive, electrical, packaging, and medical industries, where multi-cavity molds are commonly used. These molds are typically delivered as hot molds, complete with temperature controllers, ensuring precision and efficiency in production.
The expansion of the product line is driven by the development of four new nozzle series, including two 03-series and two 04-series nozzles. The 03 and 04 series feature standard flow diameters of 3.5 mm and 4.0 mm, respectively. The design of these nozzles is characterized by a wide internal channel and a compact external profile, making them ideal for complex molding applications. Despite their elongated shape—reaching up to 186 mm in length—the 03 and 04 series offer flow path diameters ranging from 2.5–4.5 mm and 2.0–6.0 mm, respectively. A compact, replaceable heater plays a crucial role in achieving this optimal balance between inner and outer dimensions.
Four distinct nozzle series have been developed to suit various applications. The 04C01 series replaces the older CA series nozzles that lacked interchangeable heaters. Now, depending on the mold design, the heater can be replaced either from the front or back end, offering greater flexibility. The 04C02 series introduces several innovations that simplify the work of mold makers. For example, it separates axial and radial positioning, eliminating a time-consuming step in the manufacturing process. The flat template positioning ensures that the nozzle contact plane doesn’t require adjustment, while the heating and thermocouple cables are routed along the nozzle for easy access and replacement.
The 03C01 and 03C02 series are currently in pre-production, just one step behind the 04 series. The 03C02 nozzles are designed to be screwed into the nozzle support plate from the front, allowing full replacement without any plastic leakage from the manifold, which enhances both safety and performance.
In addition, Synventive has introduced the HYC2508 hydraulic needle valve cylinder, which is compact and features all the key quality attributes of its proven product line. It allows in-situ adjustment of the valve needle height (±1 mm), simplifying assembly and improving maintenance speed. The rotary locking mechanism ensures precise positioning of the valve tip, especially important for freeform or twisted surfaces. Its patented active cooling and oil chamber separation technology provide high stability and a compact design, ideal for space-constrained applications. To ensure reliability, the cylinder is screwed directly into the pipeline, eliminating misalignment caused by thermal expansion. A pneumatic version will be available in 2006 for clean room environments.
As most multi-cavity molds are delivered with complete hot halves—including wiring and piping—Synventive also offers efficient temperature controllers. This ensures customers receive a fully tested, ready-to-use system, reducing setup time and increasing overall productivity.
