New hot runner technology for multi-cavity molds

St. Wanti Injection Molding Co., Ltd. has long been recognized for its expertise in large and medium-sized hot runner systems, particularly in the automotive sector. Now, the company is taking a significant step forward by expanding its product range to include nozzles capable of handling as little as 0.1 grams. This move aims to cater to a broader spectrum of industries, including automotive, electrical, packaging, and medical technology, where multi-cavity molds are commonly used. These molds are typically delivered as complete hot molds, equipped with temperature controllers to ensure precision and efficiency. The expansion is driven by the development of four new nozzle series, along with two new 03 and 04 series. The 03 and 04 series feature standard flow channels with diameters of 3.5 mm and 4.0 mm, respectively. The design of these nozzles emphasizes a compact outer profile combined with a wide internal flow path, making them ideal for applications requiring high precision and flexibility. Despite their elongated shape—reaching up to 186 mm in length—the flow channel diameters can be adjusted between 2.5–4.5 mm for size 03 and 2.0–6.0 mm for size 04. A key innovation is the use of a compact, replaceable heater that plays a crucial role in achieving the optimal inner and outer diameter ratio. Four distinct nozzle series have been developed to suit various applications. The 04C01 series replaces the older CA series nozzles, which lacked interchangeable heaters. Now, depending on the mold structure, the heater can be replaced either from the front or the back, offering greater flexibility. The 04C02 series is a newly designed product aimed at simplifying the mold-making process. It separates axial and radial positioning, eliminating a major step in mold manufacturing. The flat template surface also eliminates the need for adjusting the nozzle contact plane at the counterbore bottom. Additionally, the heating and thermocouple cables run along the nozzle, allowing easy replacement from the front end. The 03C01 and 03C02 series are currently in the pre-production phase, just one step behind the 04 series. The 03C02 nozzles are designed to be screwed into the nozzle support plate from the front, enabling full replacement without any plastic leakage from the manifold. For the new nozzle range, Synventive has introduced the HYC2508 hydraulic needle valve cylinder. This compact unit retains all the quality features of its proven predecessors. It allows in-situ adjustment of the valve needle height (+/-1 mm), simplifying assembly and improving maintenance speed. The rotary locking mechanism ensures precise positioning of the valve tip, especially important for complex or twisted surfaces. The patented active cooling and oil chamber separation technology provide high stability and a compact design, ideal for space-constrained applications. To ensure reliability, the cylinder is screwed directly into the pipeline, eliminating misalignment caused by thermal expansion. In 2006, a pneumatic version will be available to meet clean room requirements. As multi-cavity molds are typically delivered with complete hot halves—including wiring and piping—Synventive provides efficient temperature controllers. This enables the delivery of a fully tested, ready-to-use system, ensuring seamless integration and performance.
