New Engine for Elwood FPD

The Elwood Fire Protection District (FPD) in Illinois recently received a brand-new industrial foam pumper from Sutphen, equipped with a National Foam system. This state-of-the-art unit is designed to handle heavy-duty firefighting tasks, especially in industrial settings where high-performance and reliability are critical. The pumper features a 256-inch wheelbase, standing at 11 feet 11 inches tall and stretching 37 feet 6 inches in length. It's built on a Sutphen chassis with a 73-inch frame and a half 15-inch raised roof, offering ample space and visibility for the crew. The four-door cab accommodates up to four personnel and includes two EMS cabinets, ensuring all necessary medical equipment is easily accessible. Under the hood, the unit is powered by a Detroit Diesel S60 engine producing 515 horsepower, paired with an Allison GEN IV EVS4000 transmission. The electrical system is supported by a Leece Neville 320-amp alternator, while the pump is a Hale 8FG model capable of delivering 300 gallons per minute. The system also includes multiple discharge points and a powerful 8-inch deck gun that can flow up to 5,300 GPM. The pumper comes with a 750-gallon water tank and a 300-gallon foam tank, along with the National Foam Servo Command 300 system for efficient foam application. The body is constructed by Sutphen and offers 234 cubic feet of compartment space, along with a Duo-Safety ladder complement and rear chute storage. Optional equipment includes a Harrison 20W generator, a Safety Vision camera system, and a Command Light 8000W light tower, enhancing both functionality and safety. The unit was built under shop order #HS-5058, as seen in the shop photo, and detailed blueprints provide further insight into its design and construction.
