House fire in Arlington Heights, 1-14-20

Just before 4:00 AM on Tuesday, January 14, a resident in Arlington Heights called the local fire department to report smoke coming from a neighbor’s home at 1415 E. Fleming Drive South. Shortly after, the homeowner contacted the fire department, warning of a possible fire in the microwave and confirming that the family had already evacuated. Police arrived first and found thick black smoke billowing from the house. Firefighters from Engine 4 quickly confirmed the presence of smoke and were soon met with heavy flames in the C-D corner of the structure. The incident was escalated to a Code 4, signaling a working fire, which prompted additional units from Arlington Heights as well as companies from Buffalo Grove to respond. Firefighters deployed three lines to tackle the blaze, including an exterior line that used foam to help control the flames. Meanwhile, Buffalo Grove Ambulance 26 arrived on scene and assessed one of the residents who had been exposed to smoke. The individual was transported to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Although no injuries were reported, the situation remained serious, and crews worked diligently to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but early reports suggest it may have originated in the kitchen area. Residents in the neighborhood were advised to remain cautious and keep windows closed due to potential smoke exposure. Local authorities are working closely with the fire department to determine the exact cause and ensure the safety of the community. [Image gallery follows, all photos by Larry Shapiro]
