Chery's first SUV prototype released 0.8 litre QQ next year
On December 18, 2003, Anhui Chery Automobile Company made a significant move in the automotive industry by unveiling its first SUV prototype, the T11. This development marks Chery's expansion into the growing SUV market, aiming to offer a multi-functional off-road vehicle that blends practicality with style. The T11 is expected to roll off the production line next year and will fill the gap in Chery’s product lineup, from mini cars to larger SUVs.
According to reports, the T11 is equipped with a 2.4-liter Mitsubishi engine, known for its reliability and performance. While the exact name of the model remains tentative, the design hints at a strong, dynamic presence. The front of the car features the Chery logo prominently placed, while the headlights and tail lights are designed with a crystal-like, multi-reflection structure, giving the vehicle an elegant yet robust look.
The rear of the T11 has smooth curves, making it resemble a family-oriented crossover rather than a traditional off-road vehicle. Its overall design is both modern and functional, combining the ruggedness of an SUV with the comfort of a sedan. The vehicle's simple yet clear lines reflect a balance between form and function, appealing to consumers who value versatility and style.
Although details about the interior remain limited, it's reported that the T11's internal release is intended to help engineers better understand the technical specifications of the vehicle, allowing for further refinements before full-scale production. As such, many configurations and data points are still under review.
The official launch of the T11 is expected to take place in June or July of the following year. In addition to this new SUV, Chery is also working on a new version of its popular QQ model, set for 2004. This updated version may see some changes in standard features compared to the 2003 model. For instance, central locking systems, high-mounted brake lights, and electric windows may no longer be standard, while electric side mirrors could be replaced with manual ones.
These adjustments suggest that Chery is targeting the mini-car segment more aggressively in the coming year. With competitors like the Chevrolet Spark from SAIC-GM-Wuling entering the market, Chery is likely looking to maintain its edge by focusing on cost efficiency without compromising performance. By reducing costs and enhancing the price competitiveness of the new QQ, Chery aims to solidify its position as a key player in the micro-car market.
