+ SOCKET WELD FITTINGS
A socket weld is a pipe connection method where the pipe is inserted into a recessed area of a valve, fitting, or flange. Unlike butt-weld fittings, socket weld fittings are typically used for small diameter piping, generally for pipes with a nominal size of NPS 2 or smaller.
To connect pipes to valves, fittings, or other sections of piping, fillet-type seal welds are commonly used. Socket-welded joints are an excellent choice when high leakage integrity and structural strength are important design considerations.
Although fatigue resistance is lower than that of butt-welded construction due to the use of fillet welds and abrupt geometry, it is still superior to most mechanical joining methods.
Socket weld fittings are a family of high-pressure fittings widely used in various industrial applications.
