Barrington Countryside FPD buys demo engine

MySuburbanLife.com recently published an article highlighting the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District, which features a significant update regarding the purchase of a new fire engine. The district recently celebrated a special event with the dedication of a conference room in honor of John Feit, a long-time consultant and former deputy chief. During a meeting on Monday evening, the district’s trustees approved the purchase of a new engine, just days after celebrating Feit’s unexpected recognition. Trustee Paul Heinze delivered a heartfelt speech dedicating the district’s headquarters conference room at 22222 N. Pepper Road in Lake Barrington to Feit, renaming it the Deputy Chief John J. Feit Center. This tribute honored his years of service and leadership. Feit has been instrumental in guiding the district through its transition from being part of the village of Barrington. He has been involved in planning the development of a third fire station and advising on the purchase of new equipment. As the district marks its 100-day anniversary of independent operations, its 70 firefighter-paramedics have already responded to over 124 emergencies in February alone, transporting 61 patients to the hospital, according to Chief Jeff Swanson. One of Feit’s key recommendations was for the district to invest in a new rescue-pumper-squad engine. Currently on display as a demo at Fire Service, Inc., in Florida, the vehicle is expected to arrive in just over 40 days. District spokesman Ryan McKeon explained that the new engine will serve multiple roles: as a frontline fire engine, water pumper, and a tool-equipped squad vehicle, while also providing advanced life support for severe incidents. Feit and Station 2 Captain Nick Asta emphasized that the new engine is designed to address overcrowding at the Barrington Hills station, where apparatus is currently parked bumper-to-bumper. By replacing three older vehicles, the district aims to improve efficiency and response times. With this single purchase, the district will be able to carry 10,000 gallons of water on its own, something they’ve never done before, according to Feit. District President Tom Rowan expressed confidence in the $318,550 investment, calling it a smart and necessary move for the future of the department. This new engine represents not only a step forward in operational capability but also a tribute to one of the district’s most dedicated leaders.
