Barrington Countryside FPD buys demo engine

MySuburbanLife.com recently published an article about the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District, highlighting a major development in its operations. The district recently approved the purchase of a new fire engine, marking an important step forward as it continues to operate independently. The decision came during a special meeting where the board also honored John Feit, a retired deputy chief and long-time consultant for the district. As part of the celebration, Trustee Paul Heinze dedicated the district’s headquarters conference room—located at 22222 N. Pepper Road in Lake Barrington—to Feit in recognition of his years of service. The space is now officially known as the Deputy Chief John J. Feit Center. Feit has played a key role in guiding the district through its transition from being operated in partnership with the village of Barrington. He has been involved in planning the construction of a third fire station, advising on equipment purchases, and supporting the overall strategic direction of the department. With the district now celebrating its 100-day mark of independent operation, its 70 firefighter-paramedics have already responded to over 124 emergencies in February alone, transporting 61 patients to hospitals, according to Chief Jeff Swanson. One of the most significant recent decisions was the approval of a new rescue-pumper-squad engine. This unit, currently on display at Fire Service, Inc., in Florida, is expected to arrive in just over 40 days. The engine will serve as a multi-functional vehicle, combining firefighting, heavy rescue, and advanced life support capabilities. Feit recommended the purchase to address overcrowding at Station 2 in Barrington Hills, where current apparatus is packed tightly together. The new engine will replace three older vehicles, helping to free up space and improve response efficiency. It will also carry 10,000 gallons of water, which is a major upgrade for the district. “Before this, we’ve never had a vehicle that could carry that much water on its own,” Feit said. District President Tom Rowan expressed confidence in the $318,550 investment, calling it a smart and necessary move for the future of the department. With the new engine, the district is taking a big step toward modernizing its fleet and better serving the community.
