Antioch seeks tax levy
The Lake-County News-Sun recently published a story about the Antioch Fire Department's effort to secure a tax levy to support emergency medical services (EMS). Facing a nearly $800,000 budget gap, local officials are turning to voters for help. In November, residents of both the village and unincorporated areas of Antioch will be asked to approve a 25-cent tax levy. If passed, this would mean an additional $101.67 per year for homeowners with a home valued at $140,000, and $172.50 for those with a $225,000 property.
Village Administrator James Keim explained that the tax increase is necessary to cover the reimbursement shortfall for ambulance services. Until last year, these services were provided by the not-for-profit Antioch Rescue Squad (ARS), which had been serving the community for over 70 years. However, as Nixon pointed out, relying on volunteer efforts and donations is no longer a sustainable model in today’s financial climate.
The Antioch Fire Department serves both the village and the township, but ambulance services have always been handled separately. The First Fire District, which currently manages the unincorporated area, is set to end its contract with ARS next month. Starting in May, the village and township will work together under Fire Chief John Nixon to coordinate both fire and ambulance services more efficiently.
Chief Nixon emphasized that the proposed tax levy is crucial for the success of this new partnership. He estimates it will generate around $1.6 million annually for EMS services. “This referendum is all about securing a stable funding source for our emergency services,†he said. “We can’t keep relying on outdated models that don’t work anymore.â€
Keim also stressed the importance of the vote, noting that even during the time when ARS was providing services, some level of tax support was already in place. “There’s a common misunderstanding that tax dollars aren’t involved or that the service was free,†he said. “But if people want reliable, high-quality EMS, there needs to be a sustainable way to fund it.â€
With many other communities in Lake County already using tax levies for their fire and rescue services, Antioch is now catching up. As Nixon put it, “We’re a little behind the eight-ball, but we need to move forward. These are tough times, but we can’t let our emergency services suffer because of short-term financial challenges.â€
Seamless steel pipe is a tubular section or hollow cylinder, usually but not necessarily of circular cross-section, used mainly to convey substances which can flow - liquids and gases (fluids), slurries, powders and masses of small solids.
Hot rolled seamless steel pipe deformation process can be summarized as three stages: extension, perforation and finishing. Hot rolled seamless steel pipes is relative to the cold-rolled, cold rolling is below the recrystallization temperature of the rolling and hot rolled is carried out at above the recrystallization temperature of the rolling. Hot rolled seamless steel pipe can damage the refinement of the crystal grains of the steel, cast microstructure of the steel ingot and eliminate the defects of the microstructure so that the the steel organization compacting, improves the mechanical properties. This improvement is reflected in the rolling direction so that the steel is no longer at a certain extent isotropic; pouring the formation of bubbles, cracks and osteoporosis, under high pressure and temperature can also be welded together.
