Working fire in Northbrook, 5-6-20

Northbrook firefighters were dispatched to 4040 Timberlane Drive in an unincorporated area of Cook County on May 6, 2020, after reports of smoke coming from a residential home. A Cook County Sheriff’s Department officer arrived first and reported visible flames on the roof. The location is situated in the far southwest corner of Northbrook, near the borders of Glenview, Wheeling, and Prospect Heights. The only hydrant for this several-block stretch of road is located at the entrance on Sanders Road, which led to the involvement of Prospect Heights Fire Department’s Tanker 9. Northbrook Engine 10 was the first fire suppression unit on scene and laid a 5-inch hose line from the hydrant to the house. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and an advanced attic fire, prompting the alarm to be upgraded to a working fire. Additional units from Glenview and Wheeling, along with all Northbrook fire companies, responded to the call. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze, using tank water until a reliable water supply could be established. Three hoselines were deployed to extinguish the fire. Northbrook Tower 12 used their aerial platform to ventilate the roof. Fortunately, no one was inside the home at the time of the incident. Photos from the scene show thick smoke billowing from the structure and firefighters entering the building with their hose lines. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but no injuries have been reported. This event highlights the importance of quick response times and coordinated efforts between neighboring fire departments. The community remains grateful for the bravery and professionalism of the first responders who worked tirelessly to protect lives and property.
