Sanen Chi taught you how to use tristimulus color difference meter

Three instruments that use spectral sensitivity to match the CIE tristimulus color matching function curve to measure light source color are called tristimulus colorimeters, also called three-filter colorimeters. In addition to colorimetric measurements, these instruments often include one of four photometric measurements, such as brightness, illuminance, light intensity, or flux measurements.

The sensors of these instruments are high-quality photodiodes and are covered with high-sensitivity filters. The sensor converts the incident light into an electrical signal, producing a standard XYZ tristimulus value directly.

However, the fit of the colorimeter's sensor accuracy with the CIE curve is always limited, and some small error deviations will definitely exist on the sensitivity curve of the measurement instrument. These small errors can be ignored when measuring light sources that emit continuous energy over the entire visible spectrum. However, if the spectral line of the spectrum is very special or the bandwidth is very narrow, then the measurement may have a large error. Therefore, the three-filter colorimeter is generally not suitable for measuring spectral line special light sources, such as high-pressure discharge lamps (refer to Figure 3.2.3.5a), or light sources with very narrow spectral bandwidth, such as LEDs (refer to Figure 3.2. 3.5b).
