Ningbo advances to the goal of world-class injection molding machine production and sales base

Ningbo Development Zone is making significant strides toward becoming a world-class hub for injection molding machine production and sales. The recent opening of Ningbo Lijin Technology Co., Ltd. has reinforced the zone’s ambitions, marking another milestone in its journey. At the opening ceremony, Yao Li, Deputy Mayor of Ningbo and Director of the Development Zone Management Committee, reiterated the vision of transforming the area into a globally competitive injection molding machine base. Since the end of 2002, the Ningbo Development Zone Management Committee has been actively pursuing this goal. According to data from the China Plastics Machinery Association, the zone and its surrounding areas have become the largest injection molding machine production base in mainland China, accounting for over 60% of the country's total output. With more than 100 complete machine manufacturers and hundreds of component suppliers, the region offers a highly efficient supply chain. Over 90% of parts needed for injection molding machines can be sourced within a 50-kilometer radius, creating a strong industrial ecosystem. This robust infrastructure has attracted numerous global players, including Lijin, Hong Kong Zhenxiong, Taiwan Nanxun, Fuxin, Jinji, Altai, Germany’s Demag, Japan’s Sumitomo Heavy Industries, South Korea’s Ujin, Eastcom, and many others. These companies have established themselves in the zone, turning it into a major center for foreign investment in the industry. Additionally, more than 20 supporting firms, such as Yongxiang Foundry, Tianxing Screw, and Dinomax Hydraulic Motors, have joined the cluster, further strengthening the local industrial system. Since 2000, over 30 foreign injection molding machine companies have invested in the zone, with a total investment exceeding $500 million. The range of products now includes machines with clamping forces from 58 tons to 3,600 tons and injection volumes from 50 to 50,000 grams. With over 100 types of machinery produced, the quality and durability of these machines now match or exceed international standards. This has led to the formation of the largest, most advanced, and most diverse injection molding machine cluster in China. According to the China Federation of Machinery Industry, injection molding and die casting machines are key industries supported by the state. In the coming five years, China’s industry will enter a phase of global competition, presenting a strategic opportunity for Ningbo Development Zone, which serves as a crucial base for both production and R&D in this sector. Liu Xiangshang, founder of Lijin Group, praised the zone’s geographical and industrial advantages, but he was particularly impressed by the efficiency of the local government. As the first project of Lijin Group in the southern Yangtze River Delta, the plant was completed and operational in just one year, setting a new record. This speed caught the attention of the Hong Kong business community and highlighted the favorable investment environment in the zone. The influx of foreign companies has brought cutting-edge technology and management practices to local manufacturers, fostering healthy competition and collaboration. This dynamic environment has elevated the zone’s status in the global injection molding machine industry and laid a solid foundation for its vision of becoming a world-class manufacturing base.
