IHIMU marine diesel engine will be fully electronically controlled in the future

Japan's Ishikawa Island Harima Joint Shipbuilding Company (IHIMU) is making significant progress in its efforts to gain full control over marine diesel engine technology. As part of its long-term strategy, the company aims to fully integrate electronic control systems into all of its marine diesel engines by the end of the 2008 fiscal year. This move reflects a broader industry trend toward more efficient and environmentally friendly ship propulsion systems. The company has been collaborating with Wärtsilä Diesel, a leading global provider of marine power solutions, to incorporate advanced electronic control technology into its engine production. In fiscal year 2005, out of the 26 marine diesel engines produced, six already featured this cutting-edge technology. This marked a crucial step in the company's journey toward technological self-reliance. By the end of fiscal 2008, IHIMU plans to expand the use of electronic control systems across its entire range of marine diesel engines, which are expected to number between 25 and 30 units annually. This transition not only enhances engine performance but also improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions, aligning with international environmental regulations. The shift to electronic control technology represents a major milestone for IHIMU as it strives to remain competitive in the global shipbuilding and marine engine markets. With continued investment in research and development, the company is positioning itself as a key player in the future of sustainable maritime technology.
